| Curitiba | Eighty percent of people move around the downtown area on foot or by bicycle. Bicycles are abundant. Pedestrians and cyclists have been much favoured by municipal policies. In the last four decades the area of pedestrian walkways has risen from 15,000 sq. m. to 100,000 sq. m. Every year, the Local Authorities remove 2 to 3 percent of the parking areas to transform them into pedestrian open areas. The new urban spaces, like the restored ones and the numerous adapted buildings, have given rise to a new language of accessibility in architecture and a quality urban scene.

This street is well adapted, with paving in a good texture for blind visitors and wheelchair users. |
