The second part covers the research I conducted, from an architect’s point of view, into a series of practical case studies where theoretical principles of accessibility are applied to similar concepts with common goals, such as universal design, design for all, inclusive design, inclusive architecture, universal accessibility or architecture for all in the urban environment, in streets, boulevards, avenues, squares, walkways and parks. This research was confined to analysing experiences that may be instructive, rather than criticising mistakes and inadequacies. In the third and final part of this Thesis I have considered some conclusions regarding the problem of accessibility in public spaces and how to address the mobility needs of disabled people. |
